Up,is not only the best kids’ movie of the year, but one of best movies of 2009. It is the first Disney Pixar film to have been made in 3-D, and it commemorated Pixar’s the tenth anniversary. Peter Docter, the Academy Award-nominated director really created a masterpiece. He invites us on a hilarious journey into a lost world that lets most adults return to innocence.
Up tells the story of a 78-year-old balloon salesman Carl Fredricksen, who has always dreamed of going on a great adventure. He ties thousands of balloons to his house and files away to the wilds of South America. But he discovers all too late that his biggest nightmare has stowed away on the trip: a chubby, overly optimistic 8-year-old Wilderness Explorer named Russell. Together, they live a bizarre adventure, complete with chases and near-death mishaps. As the story progresses, we meet a cast of engaging characters: Kevin, a squawking exotic bird whom Russell wants to save, and a wonderful pack of talking dogs. Finally the old man not only fulfills his lifelong dream of a great adventure, but also changes his attitude toward life, and says “Yes” to all the unpredictable surprises in his life.
I do really love Up. There are many beautiful moments, from the vast panoramic shots of mountain ranges and waterfalls to the small things, just like Ellie’s adventure scrapbook. By showing us many touching moments, the director gives us a poignant montage of Carl’s life with his new-deceased wife, Ellie. There’s other scene where Russell talks about the happy times he once had with his dad, who is always too busy for him. This movie presents the most important things in our life, that we always neglect. Up encourages adults to always keep our innocent mind and imagination and encourages children, too: there’s a world of adventure out there, stopping surfing the internet kids, because the real world is outside your door.
